About two weeks ago, Fenty Beauty (Rihanna’s infamous makeup line) hosted a four day sales event where fans were rewarded with 25% off their purchase PLUS an additional 10% ! This sale was too good to pass up, so I ordered all new items that I’ve been dying to try.
Here’s a review of everything I got..
Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer: Ever since Fenty first launched in 2017, the one product I would constantly hear about is the primer. During that time I was still experimenting and learning how to do my makeup so I didn’t know much about primers and more often than not, would skip that step. So, I was excited when this sale launched because I would finally be able to to try out some new products!
The Instant Retouch Primer goes on the skin like a lotion. It’s very lightweight and smoothes out the texture to create an even canvas throughout. I love the faint scent that this product has, but I’m not necessarily sure if that’s good for the skin in the long run (bummer). I will say that although it is hydrating and helps with pores, I don’t really notice a blurring effect which is what I usually look for in a primer. It does pair well with my other products, but I’m not sure if I absolutely love it like others do.
Overall: I would purchase again in the future because it does feel hydrating all while keeping oils at bay and prolonging my makeup. BUT, I don’t think I’ll be in a hurry to re-buy once it runs out since it isn’t an item I would consider a staple
Pro Filt’r Hydrating Longwear Foundation: I’ve tried the Fenty Beauty Soft Matte Foundation , but wasn’t a huge fan of how much is oxidized plus how incompatible it is with dry skin. When I saw that they released a hydrating foundation, I knew it would be perfect (as long as it didn’t oxidize). Clearly I wasn’t wrong, because this foundation is EVERYTHING!! It has beautiful coverage and is so dewy ( I remember a time where everyone was pro-matte and despised anything dewy) which is great for the upcoming colder months.
I grabbed the shade 380 for anyone who wants to use me as a reference. It does run a bit red, but that happens to be something I like. My face is way paler than my neck and chest so when I pick out foundation, I pick a color to match my chest, not my face. I do think I may try a shade lighter, but with the same cool undertone to see if it matches a little better because I do think this shade is dark. But then again, it balances out when I apply my golden-tone concealers and powder.
Overall: I will definitely be rebuying and trying other shades out! I will say, this foundation isn’t transfer proof so be careful when wearing your mask because it will definitely transfer inside your mask!
Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Setting Powder: This powder right here ♥ This is my go-to powder and has been for the past two years or so! I’m absolutely obsessed with the color and love how soft and blurred it looks. It’s a super fine powder so it fills in imperfections and looks amazing with literally ANYTHING!
The shade I use is Honey, which is the perfect golden yellow. It is a little more mattifying than other powders so you may want to avoid packing it on if you have dry skin. For me, I usually use hydrating and dewy liquid products so that I can apply as much of this powder as I want without it looking cakey or dry! I also use A LOT of setting spray so that it settles well and gives that airbrushed look.
Overall: I will continue to repurchase this product until I find something that I like better (if that’s even possible)
Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Bronzer: Before I review this item, I’m going to make it clear that I picked the wrong shade, so I can’t for sure say how I like this bronzer until my new shade comes in. I’m pretty much basing my review of this item on my one time use of it, but not using any bias that may come from picking the wrong shade (I’ll only talk about the formula, not the shade) The color I initially grabbed was Teddy, but I’m exchanging it for Chocolate because the first shade is way too olive and not deep enough.
This cream bronzer was a bit thinner (more sheer) than I had expected and didn’t provide a ton of coverage. However, I love how well it blended out! It almost melts onto the brush and into your skin which I really liked. I was a little disappointed with how it paired with the powder bronzer. The two together looked muddy and not so flawless.
Overall: I would say that you should make sure to pick the right shade. It’s better to get a too dark shade and lightly apply than it is to get the wrong undertone. I personally would prefer not to use with the powder bronzer, so if you want that contoured look, then go cream and if you want a bronzed but subtle look, go powder!
Sun Stalk’r Instant Retouch Bronzer: This is probably my favorite item out of the whole haul! It has such a beautiful finish and it glides on well! It doesn’t look muddy and isn’t so highly pigmented that you apply too much on accident.
The shade I use (and probably every other black girl) is Coco Naughty. I would say that the finish is on the more natural side, so it’s not overbearing. It’s truly a bronzer and not a contour! If you’re looking to contour, then try the matchstix or cream version of this!
Overall: A thousand times, yes!! I will definitely keep this product on hand at all times! I will probably order sone back ups so that I never run out. I usually have a hard time finding a good bronzer, so I’m so happy I got this!
Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo: If you haven’t heard of these, then you’re probably living under a rock. But seriously, this is probably one of the most popular products she has out! It comes in a ton of colors and some are duos which allows you to try two shades for the price of one!
I grabbed two different duos, one with Mo’ Hunny||Afternoon Snack and Chick Phreak||Girl Next Door. I love how the two shades in the compact have different finishes. The shades on the left are more subtle while the shades on the right have a bit of glitter so they sparkle more. Now, I will say the shades on the left have a bit of an ashy finish when you turn your head. I’ve learned to fix that by using setting spray after applying the highlighter so it settles in more.
Overall: I love the glittery finishes a lot more than the shimmer ones, but I will definitely try out other colors in the future! Especially the deeper pink-toned ones.
Well, that’s the end of my haul. I really enjoy trying out new products to review for you all! I’ll have to do more hauls in the future ! If you’ve tried Fenty Beauty, comment your favorite products below.
