So, before all of the quarantine lockdowns started, I took a trip to Walmart and picked up some new foundations. For a while, I had been using the Milani Conceal + Perfect Foundation, but I started to notice that the shades didn’t fit me anymore and the finish started to look a little too matte. I figured since I won’t be going out of the house much, this would be the perfect time to try out some new makeup and see what will get added to my makeup bag, and what will be tossed in the trash!
L’Oreal Infalliable Freshwear Foundation: I ended up grabbing this foundation in two shades (511 and 515). I hear a bunch of reviews about this and how similar it is to the NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation. I tried this foundation on at Ulta a few weeks ago and fell in love, but I wanted to find a nice dupe for it.
For about a week, I wore the 511 on its own. The finish is so beautiful and natural plus the coverage is amazing! When I wear this foundation, I don’t have to color correct. But since the seasons are changing and I am getting a bit tanner, I switched to the 515. I hated the color of the 515 on its own, so I began to layer it on top of the NYX Born to Glow Foundation in the shade Mahogany (which is the same shade I use in the Total Control Drops), and they paired beautifully. Plus, I still didn’t have to color correct! However, I still chose to color correct just in case the color faded throughout the day and wouldn’t leave a grayish ring around my mouth area.
The other foundation that I picked up was the Revlon Colorstay– Natural Finish in the shade Pecan (510). The coverage of this beauty is amazing! As far as coverage goes, this and the NYX Born to Glow are definitely my favorites! I usually only put on one layer of this foundation. I did start to notice that this shade was a little too neutral for me, so I started pairing it with 511 from the L’Oreal Infalliable Freshwear Foundation. I’d say this combination looks closer to my true tone than the other combos. I have mentioned several times before that I have a weird skin tone. Typically, you would describe my undertone as neutral, but neutral foundations look a little olive on me. So, I usually like to mix my foundations, one neutral shade with one warm shade, then I use a rich golden concealer. This tends to give me the best balance and doesn’t leave my foundation looking too warm.
I picked up two different concealers, one was the L’oreal Age Perfect Concealer in the shade Caramel, plus the Elf Hydrating Camo Concealer in two different shade (Deep Cinnamon which I use to color correct and Medium Beige which I layer on top of my Neutrogena Radiant Skin Concealer.) Ever since Elf came out with the camo concealers, I have been obsessed! I always make sure I have them in my makeup bag. But recently, they released a hydrating version of the camo concealer, and I haven’t looked back since! I have combination skin but tend to get dry depending on what skincare products I used. Typically, I lean towards higher coverage concealers that aren’t too matte. The Elf Hydrating Camo Concealer is THICK and provides so much coverage (it may be even thicker than the original formula) yet it blends out so natural! This is probably my favorite concealer ever, and definitely is my favorite drugstore concealer! Now, as far as the L’oreal Age Perfect Concealer goes, I had mixed feelings. I loved the shade of the concealer, but I noticed that it sheered out when blending, and it almost seemed to take away some product that was in the same area. It also caused some flashback when I tested it out on camera. I really wanted to like this concealer because the shade was so beautiful and it blended out so well on top of my hand, but it didn’t seem to work with the other products that I had on. The reason why I’m not completely passing this concealer up is that I want to try it again with my normal makeup routine, and see how it looks.
These last two products, I have had for a while, but didn’t use much until recently. So, technically they aren’t new, they’re just now being added to my routine. The Makeup Revolution Bake & Blot Powder is just a translucent pressed powder that I use to set my face. It definitely keeps my makeup in place all day and doesn’t cause flashback. I was a little nervous about the color at first, but It looks good on camera.
Lastly, I tried the Milani Prep and Set. While I love the formula of this setting spray, the bottle seems to run out fast. I’ve only used it about 15 times, and it’s almost time for a new bottle. Usually, I buy the Morphe Continuous Setting Mist and it lasts me well over a month since it has the continuous nozzle (in my opinion, this helps save some product).
Overall, I’d say all of these items are keepers, minus the L’Oreal Age Perfect Concealer which I will have to test out again just to be sure I don’t like it. I have linked all of the products mentioned in this post below, so be sure to scroll if you are interested in trying them out for yourself!
