Okay, don’t judge. I’m about a week late getting this post up, but here it is. For the month of September I tested out several new products and am excited to share with you all which ones are my favorite and my opinion on them plus if they’re worth buying or not.
SPOILER ALERT: all of the new items that I tried, I really liked (hence the title, lol) so I wanted to dedicate this post to focus on why they are my favorites and why I will add them to my everyday regimen. In total I will be reviewing 5 products- 2 cleansers, 1 cream, 1 sunscreen, and 1 serum.
To make it easier to follow along, I’m going to review them in the order that I use them, so starting with cleanser and ending with sunscreen.
First Aid Beauty- Pure Skin Cleanser: If you are a skincare “guru”, then First Aid Beauty should be a familiar brand for you. This cleanser is infused with an antioxidant blend and helps protect your skin barrier while also calming any inflammation.
My Experience: One of my favorite things about this cleanser is the fact that it lathers so well. When they say to use a pea-sized amount, they mean it! A little goes a long way with this. I also love this cleanser because it is gentle enough to be used daily, and it’s my go to when my skin has a bad reaction to other products (or when I mix the wrong active ingredients and suffer from mild chemical burns.)
Usually after using this cleanser, my face feels super soft and clean but it also feels hydrated. As I’ve mentioned in other posts, I suffer from sensitive and semi-dry skin so it is important that the cleansers I use don’t leave my face feeling stripped.
I normally use the pure skin cleanser before bed, after I have removed my makeup and I am surprised at how well it cleans my skin and keeps me blemish-free (for the most part.) I like double cleansing so I’ll use this after I go in with the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser.
Murad- Essential C Cleanser: Rehydrates skin that has been damaged from environmental factors. It its packed with vitamins and attracts moisture to dry skin. It is also cruelty free and dermatologist tested.
My Experience: I got this cleanser in a brightening kit and was a bit skeptical. I felt as if vitamin c should be able to be absorbed into your skin, not washed off, so I wasn’t sure how well this product would work. On it’s own, I will say that it doesn’t make a huge difference, but when you use the entire Murad Vitamin C line, then you’ll notice results faster.
I like to use this product in the mornings since it has been proven that sunscreen is more effective when paired with Vitamin C. Since its not recommenced to use Vitamin C serums during the day, I like to use this cleanser because it has traces of Vitamin C, but isn’t as concentrated as a serum so it pairs well with my sunscreen.
This cleanser is very soothing and hydrating, plus it smells amazing. I normally don’t care too much for fragrance in skincare, but this has a very subtle hint of citrus which helps to awaken your senses early in the morning.
E.L.F. Hydrating Serum: Designed to strengthen the skin while also leaving it hydrated and locking in moisture. It is made up of Jojoba, aloe, Vitamin E, and other nourishing products. It is also cruelty free, and free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates.
My Experience: I haven’t been using this product as long as the others, but I instantly fell in love with it. Before adding it to my evening routine, I would use skin oil to “lock in” moisture but soon realized that there was no moisture to lock in because I wasn’t using a hyaluronic acid serum or some type of hydrating serum.
Once I started using this product, I noticed that my skin still felt soft and hydrated in the morning (note that I like to keep my place cold and always sleep with the fan on.) One thing I don’t like about this serum is the consistency and the fact that it doesn’t contain HA [hyaluronic acid]. This serum is a bit on the thin side which is goo for absorbency, but I prefer my serums to be a bit thicker.
First Aid Beauty- Ultra Repair Cream: Curated with colloidal oatmeal, shea butter, and antioxidant boosters. It provides immediate relief to parched skin and increases hydration by 169% immediately upon application.
Of all the new products I tried last month, this one is probably my favorite or close favorite behind the sunscreen. I am not exaggerating when I say that I noticed how hydrated my skin felt right after applying for the first time. It is different from other creams in that it lasts so much longer! I’ve tried creams that hydrate me, but that hydration wears off quickly. As mentioned above, my skin still feels moisturized when I wake up in the morning and I believe it is 80% because of this product!
This cream is super thick like I like it and absorbs fairly quickly. I suffer from rosacea and noticed that my face has been less red since using this product, and also not as textured in my cheek area! I initially bought this cream because my skin had minor chemical burns from me using the wrong products together, but within a week my skin was back to normal (maybe even better than normal!)
Murad- Essential C Day Moisture: Creates a shield to protect skin from sun damage while also improving the skin’s moisture barrier. Formulated without parabens, sulfates and phthalates; and is clinically tested.
My Experience: It wasn’t until recently that I learned the importance of wearing sunscreen daily. Since I do suffer from hyperpigmentation, not wearing sunscreen isn’t an option because the sun can cause those hyper-pigmented areas to become even darker. I’ve tried a few other sunscreens but hated how they would leave a purple/gray cast or left my skin feeling super greasy (yuck!)
This sunscreen has a lotion-like consistency and absorbs into my skin pretty quickly. Like the Essential- C Cleanser, this product has a slight citrus aroma which makes applying this product even more pleasant.
