Although we may love winter for the beautiful scenery that follows a night of non-stop snow fall; winter time can be one of the most crucial seasons on our skin. Often times the cold and dry weather can make our skin and lips feel like sandpaper, leaving us desperate for some moisture!
I have gathered up some of my favorite hydrating products that’ll help you get through this winter! The best thing about these products are that they can be swapped in and out throughout the year to fit your needs!
I have been using these new cleansers for about 3 months now, and I absolutely love them! Since I typically wear a lot of makeup, it’s important that I double cleanse to ensure that all of the dirt and makeup is off my face. After I’ve removed my makeup with olive oil, I go in with my ‘Awake Beauty Glow Smoothie Jelly Cleanser’. I like to use this product with just my fingers since it’s a gentle cleanse. This cleanser lathers really well and a little goes a long way. It has hydrating and brightening properties; not to mention, it smells AMAZING. After I wash this product off, I go in with the ‘Tula Purifying Face Cleanser’ I use this product with my basic facial brush that I’ll link below. The Tula cleanser is a classified “cult classic” and is what everyone is raving about. I wasn’t too sure about this product and thought that it would be overrated, but let me tell you, I absolutely cannot go without this! It makes my skin feel so smooth and clean, without feeling overly dried. In the past, I’ve used purifying cleansers that leave my skin feeling stripped of all moisture, but not this one! It even has a blurring effect which I love! It’s especially perfect for winter because it provides a deep cleanse while retaining moisture; but I will definitely be incorporating this into my year-round skincare routine.
After my skin is feeling nice and clean, I like to start applying my products to trap in the moisture that is left in my skin + add more moisture since it is winter. After I’ve applied my toner ‘Dickinson’s Pore Perfect Toner’ then I like to mist my face with ‘Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist’. The best thing about this mist is that it has a continuous spray nozzle, meaning that as long you are pressing the nozzle, mist will come out. Not like your traditional nozzles that can be found in products like Mario Badescu (no shade to those mists, I actually love them but hate the nozzle). Watermelon has a host of benefits for your skincare needs. It has Amino Acids, Anti-aging & Anti-inflammatory properties, Antioxidants, increases collagen and elasticity, protects against wrinkles and UV damage and contains Vitamin A, B, C and E. It is perfect for hydrating your skin while adding a host of other benefits. Once you’ve sprayed this mist, you can just let it air-dry before applying your serums
Serums are my absolute favorite step to any skincare routine! They are typically heavy duty and cater to your skin needs, like hyperpigmentation or redness, etc. It’s best to only focus on skincare need, or incorporate a product that caters to multiple issues. This is why I am in love with ‘The Ordinary Niacinamide Serum’ it not only minimizes hyperpigmentation, improves the appearance of enlarged pores, fights uneven skin texture and prevents your face from appearing dull, aka dehydrated. I also like to layer this serum with the ‘Earth to Skin Superfruits Watermelon Hydrating Juicy Serum’ Although Niacinamide can be paired with a slew of other serums, I won’t recommend overdoing it on the serums. I like to use my ‘Rose Quartz Roller’ to allow the products to seep into my skin plus it feels like a little massage.
TIP: It feels best if your products are stored in a fridge to add an extra cooling effect!
This step is completely optional, and can be a bit scary if you aren’t used to shaving. But, dermaplaning is a process where you take a razor and shave off excess hair from your face. It also helps to exfoliate your skin as it gets rid of dead skin. Shaving your face is totally harmless and actually helps your products to seep into your skin better (and makes your makeup look amazing!) If you choose to do this step, I would do it in between your cleanser and toner (right after you have cleansed your face and before you apply your mist or toner). I typically do this about 1-2x a week and it makes the world of a difference! I will link some eyebrow razors that you can use below!
Although this product isn’t specifically labeled a moisturizer, I like to use it as if it were. The ‘Ulta Beauty Watermelon Sleeping Mask’ is one of my favorite moisturizers to use during the colder months. It keeps my face hydrating and has a gel-like consistency so it is super lightweight and can be used under your makeup! However, if you don’t feel comfortable using a sleeping mask as your moisturizer, you can use the ‘L’Oreal Cell Renewal Rosy Tone Cream’ it is marketed to mature skin, but it is a heavier cream that leaves your skin smooth and evenly textured! It keeps your skin looking youthful and hydrated and looks perfect under your foundation if you wear makeup!
Technically, this step should come before moisturizer, but I like to apply my eye creams after my moisturizer since some of the creams that I use aren’t as lightweight. First, I take the ‘Clinique Moisture Surge Eye Cream’ and massage it into my skin using my ring finger. I make sure to get my eyelids as well! A little goes a long way with this product so this will last you a long time! I like to layer this product with the ‘Kylie Brightening Eye Cream’ to give it a brightening effect. I am really interested in trying out the Haldi Eyes by Fersali, but they always seem to be sold out at my local Sephora.
Remember, proper skincare is essential if you want to stay youthful, and if you are a makeup lover like I am! If you follow the steps in the order that I have listed above, with the products that I have listed below, you are sure to stay hydrated all winter long!
