If you know anything about me, then you know that I love finding affordable beauty products! I usually wear makeup everyday and it can get pricey to have to replace products so often, which is why I try and save where I can. I noticed that drugstore primers perform just as well as high-end ones. Since I have a bit of texture on my cheeks and get oily in my t-zone, it is important that I don’t skip primer!
I recently posted a few photos on Instagram of two new primers that I have been loving and a few of you all were interested in purchasing for yourself as well. so I figured I would give you an in-depth review on my thoughts
The two primers that I’ve been using are Neutrogena’s Matte Primer + Serum and Milani’s Rose Primer. Now you may be confused as to why I have a matte primer and then a hydrating primer, like aren’t they supposed to cancel each other out? But they actually work amazing together, especially since I have combination skin (I get dry on my cheeks and around my mouth, but tend to be oily in my t-zone.) I like to focus the Milani on my cheeks, mouth area and under-eye, while I apply the Neutrogena to the areas that tend to produce more oils. Both products have 1.0 fl oz which I expect to last for a few months (I’ve been using both for almost a month now and have a long ways before they’re empty
When wearing these two, I notice that my makeup looks flawless, like it doesn’t enhance any texture and works well with my powder (and I usually use a lot of powder, lol)
A lot of times, I like to pick my primer based off texture. Usually I like primers that have a velvety texture, similar to Smashbox’s bestseller. However, these primers are different. The Milani is similar to the texture of a facial moisturizer, while the Neutrogena feels a little slick and runny. I was a little nervous about the Neutrogena’s texture, but it absorbs into your skin fairly quickly which is important if you’re usually in a rush like me, lol.
The good thing about both of these primers is the fact that they both can be used alone or with makeup. What that means is that if you just want a product to hydrate your skin just a bit, but not wanting to wear makeup, then you can still use the Milani Rose Primer. The same thing with the Matte Primer + Serum if you feel like your skin is overly oily and want a product to control the oil.
If I had to choose between the two, I would say the Matte Primer + Serum from Neutrogena. You may be shocked since I said my skin does tend to run on the dry side, but I noticed that this primer isn’t drying at all and it extends the wear of my makeup for hours on hours! I’m usually still mostly dry after about 8 hours which is about the time that most other primers start to slip off. Now, the reason why I don’t like using this product on its own is because it doesn’t have any noted smoothing factors and as I stated earlier, I have texture on my cheeks from my rosacea so I like to have a blurring/smoothing primer in my textured areas.
Both primers are highly affordable and can be found in your local drugstores plus Walmart and Target! The Neutrogena Matte Primer + Serum retails for $14.99 at Target and the Milani Rose Primer retails for $8.99 at Target so you can grab both for under $25! I have seen both inside of Ulta, but they’re a few dollars higher inside of Ulta so I would recommend getting them from Walmart or Target.
