My decision to start blogging definitely wasn’t something that occurred overnight. Over the years I battled figuring out a way to turn my passion into something meaningful to others. At first, I thought I wanted to be a beauty influencer on YouTube, but being that I’m shy and introverted, that wasn’t the best decision. I had never even heard of a blogger until I started using Pinterest Regularly. Once I started following bloggers on Instagram and getting a glimpse into what their line of work was like, I knew the blogging life was for me.

INCOME REPORT- This is a pretty laughable moment for me, but for my first month of blogging I made a grand total of… (*cue the drumroll*) 21 cents! I literally made that in the last 2 days of my one month mark using Google AdSense. After doing some research, I realized that placing ads in the sidebar isn’t ideal because
- If you are reading on your phone, then the sidebar doesn’t show up until towards the bottom of the phone
- Not everyone will pay attention to what is located in the sidebar, but instead to what is placed inside the post (or in between posts)
Since I didn’t do much research on different affiliate programs that I can join as a beginner blogger, I didn’t profit much during the first month; but that’s completely okay! Blogging is fun for me and serves as an outlet, so I’m not 100% focused on monetizing it just yet, but I am excited to see where it leads in the future!
(P.S.—- I still included some data of my Amazon Affiliate stats)
GOOGLE ANALYTICS– According to my Google Analytics, I managed to receive over 300 total page views (307 to be exact!) This may not seem like a lot to you, but for a new blogger, that’s actually really good progress. I was able to see where most of my views come from, and I was happy to see that several cities in my state (North Carolina) ranked high! For next month, I plan to hit 1k page views (SUPERGOAL would be to hit 1.5k page views in my second month of blogging!)
TAILWIND- At first, I was skeptical about this app because I had read a blog about how Tailwind put them in “blogger jail”, but I decided I would give It a try and I haven’t looked back since! If you don’t know what Tailwind is, it’s an app that allows you to schedule your Pinterest and Instagram posts. They also have groups, “tribes”, that you can join to increase the amount of reshares your pins get. Since I didn’t start using Tailwind until a little over halfway through my first month, I didn’t get major results (probably because I wasn’t using it every day as I should be); but, I definitely see the difference in my views when manual pinning vs using tailwind.
PINTEREST– If you would like a separate post dedicated to how to grow your Pinterest stats, then let me know! But, for the sake of time, I will just give you the basics.
Pinterest is actually one of my favorite social media platforms, not just for blogging, but in general! It is one of my most used apps and helps increase the amount of traffic that my blog gets! In my first month of blogging, I managed to accumulate nearly 28k Impressions! I did notice that videos would do better than pictures. I’m not sure why, but I suspect that it has something to do with the approval process and what time the video is being posted after it has been approved.
WHAT I PLAN TO CHANGE IN THE FUTURE
- Join more affiliate programs
- Remain on schedule and get better with planning content ahead of time
- Starting up a weekly newsletter
- Offering freebies and printables
- Using Tailwind more consistently
GOALS FOR MY SECOND MONTH OF BLOGGING
- Reach 1k pageviews
- Have a Pinterest following of 50+
- Increase Pinterest monthly viewers to 25k
- Have over 50k impressions on Pinterest
- Increase income (no specific goal right now- just want to see its potential)
